Staff Movie Review: The Last Stand – He’s Back!!!

THE LAST STAND: HE’S BACK!!! The Last Stand (2013) Directed by Jee-woo Kim Starring Arnold Swarzenegger, Forrest Whittaker, and Johnny Knoxville The Last Stand is basically the Old West mixed with modern day firepower and a classic action hero. Arnold Swarzenegger plays Sheriff Ray Owens, the sheriff of a small, sleepy town on the U.S./Mexico border. This town also happens to be the last stop of a Mexican drug lord on the run from the FBI. Of course the sheriff, [...]

Staff Move Review: 21 Jump Street & Argo

21 Jump Street B+ This was a hilarious and refreshing take on the retro-tv-remake-movie. I laughed at nearly every scene, and I was massively entertained by both lead performances. I have always enjoyed Jonah Hill, but Channing Tatum surprised me with some genuinely brilliant deliveries. Argo A+ Argo is winning a lot of awards and it really does deserve it. An extremely solid and interesting script, a masterful (though sadly unrecognized by the academy) directing effort, and a phenomenal cast [...]

Staff Movie Review: Hansel and Gretel (Don’t follow the Bread Crumbs)

Hansel and Gretel, Witch Hunters (2013) GRADE: C- Director: Tommy Wirkola Starring: Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton In this new age, ass-kicking Grimm’s fairytale, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) are guns for hire. Hansel and Gretel’s parents abandoned them in the woods one mysterious night and, just like in the original storybook, the two have to fight off a ravenous witch. They quickly turn this one event into a lifelong career. If there’s a witch, she burns by [...]

Staff Movie Review: Django & Lincoln

Django: Unchained A+ Django was a perfectly bloody homage to the spaghetti western genre. Setting it against the backdrop of slavery in the south caused for some discomfort among audiences, but I believe effectiveness and originality are at the heart of any great film, and these are qualities present in all of Tarantino’s works. This film exhibits them as expertly as any before. This is also, in my humble opinion, his best dialogue and soundtrack since Pulp Fiction. Lincoln B+ [...]

In the Studio with Wild Child

I spent a huge chunk of my life attempting to be a successful musician. In recent years, that focus has shifted to film, and I am grateful Moth to Flame has given me the opportunity to blend my passions. I hope to consistently produce music based video projects for MTF and build our recognition throughout the vast Austin music community. The latest and greatest effort in this endeavor came last Thursday when I spent a day in studio with Wild [...]

    The Premiere is the End

There are countless times when I release a piece of work and I cannot help but wonder whether I am the only one who appreciates or cares to watch it. I joke a lot with my friends that I am probably the only person in a dark room by myself laughing at the jokes on screen or editing miniscule details that only I can see. What if no one ever watches what I make, or what if only 50 people [...]
