Benefits of being an Austin Production Company

Location: Austin, Texas

Unlike production hubs like California and New York, it is still relatively inexpensive to live in Austin, Texas, making survival in a very unstable industry much more doable. Known as Silicon Hills, Austin is a growing startup hub. This translates to more film production opportunities for creating marketing content. In addition, most people in Austin welcome film productions without costing the filmmaker extreme location fees, allowing Austin film companies to keep production budgets affordable.

Big Fish in a Small Pond Effect

Film production competition, though growing, is still less saturated compared to other production hubs. If you are an individual trying to make a brand for yourself, this is a great place to stand out from the crowd.

Supportive Film Production Community

Relatively speaking, film production is not cut throat in Austin, Texas. In fact, the small community is helpful, friendly, and tight knit. People help each other out and cross hire from each other’s companies. If you are a responsible, respectful, and easy to work with individual, you will usually be able to find a job freelancing and thus hedge the risks of running a business. As a company, like any other business, you will experience ups and downs. Knowing that even when your company experiences a “slow” season, that you have other film companies that will hire you, is a peace of mind.

Why Moth to Flame?

So how does Moth to Flame compare to everyone else you ask? Surprisingly, despite offering similar services, all the top 3 companies differ from each other significantly in brand and culture. We all have our niches and focuses. Onion Creek, for example focuses a lot on large music events. They not only run one of the major music festivals in Austin, Texas “UtopiaFest,” a few of their key stakeholders manage local Austin bands. Next, EscapePlan uses innovative VFX techniques in their music videos. They also run their own co-working space, Createscape. Finally, GoldenArm focuses on clean, corporate marketing. If your company requires a highly professional, formulaic style of corporate video (talking heads, b-roll) they do very consistent and high quality content.

At Moth to Flame, we focus on an edgier style choice and storytelling technique.

We love humor, sometimes crude or surprising, in a lot of our marketing. If you want “virability,” that is the kind of the content we like to produce. Check out one of our favorite commercials that we produced for a local gym: Dane’s Body Shop.

We enjoy content considered raw, real, and authentic. Companies who choose us should not be afraid to loosen their ties and challenge the corporate filter. They do not stray away from the occasional cussing on screen or a tearful emotional breakdown.  If your company wants to build character and appear personable and unique, that is what we do best. At Moth to Flame, we want to tantalize the senses and make the audience feel. We truly believe without the heart, whatever messaging your company wants to portray will not stick.
