Moth to Flame presents Dane’s Body Shop

Moth to Flame loves telling the stories of many local Austin startups. On the theme of our feature film, Funemployment, we are showcasing some inspirational companies that we have worked with! This week we are showcasing Dane’s Body Shop. Not only is this one of the best gyms in Austin, Texas,  but also one of Funemployment’s lead actors, Dunte Hector, is actually a coach at Dane’s Body Shop. Dane Krager, the founder of Dane’s Body Shop answers a few of our questions.

1. What is the startup story for Dane’s Body Shop?

Dane’s Body Shop started in 2010 as a small-group exercise training program to help people lose weight, tone up and get stronger and has been growing ever since. The community now consists of about 400 members and has yielded many opportunities for friendships and business connections.

2. What made you decide to start Dane’s Body Shop?

A passion to help people increase their confidence in this life and take full advantage of it. I had an incredible time being a pro athlete; I felt blessed. After traveling and learning for some time, I soon felt compelled to help others in my community, whom may have not had the physical or mental advantages I did, to create experiences and opportunities to take life to it’s full potential.

3. What is the best moment of having a startup?

When you wake up and tell yourself that you’ve slept on a comforter with your dog in the back-closet of the Shop for the last time. And tomorrow will be the day you call the landlord to tell him you can’t afford the property anymore and to start looking for someone else to lease the building; Only to greet the first client at the front door, who walks in and says, “I am so glad you are doing this for us, Dane. It means so much…” – It gets you. It hooks you.

4. What is your greatest challenge as an entrepreneur?

Finding a way to constantly evolve for my clients/members; to not allow myself to become stagnant and to not get too comfortable when things seem “successful”.

5. What is your tip for aspiring startups/entrepreneurs?

If your business is not a staple of human life, then you have to be willing to give more in service than the “other guy”; give more in value than you receive in payment. You must be the differentiator for your business, or be able to recognize and hire the one that will be.
