12 Jan Kellie Penna’s Resolutions for the New Year
Here are Kellie Penna’s Resolutions for the New Year
1 Watch more Independent movies.
I’ve never had a problem with going to the movies. Do it all the time, and my husband is always game. But we always see “mainstream” movies. Nothing wrong with that, I quite enjoy it. It’s harder to convince my other half to see a film that may be foreign-made, has a bleak outlook, and a possibly depressing end. Not that every independent movie is like that, but my point is they’re more of a gamble when it comes to emotions. If you go see a mainstream film, you probably know how you’re going to feel coming out of the theater. With Independent you never know. Which is both wonderful and a little scary at the same time. But if you work in film, I believe it’s always best to have a mental inventory that crosses all genres. And well I’ve been limiting myself. So I’ll either have to find a new partner in crime for “those” movies, or be very brave and …gasp!!! Go by myself!!
2 Buy my own personal camera
I’ve been saying this statement for the longest time… and also putting off the action. Partly money, partly circumstances. I’ve always had access to cameras I could borrow and money has usually gone to more pertinent issues. But time to stop procrastinating, save and then shell out the dollars before anything major pops up. And well the purposes of having my own camera should be self-explanatory.
3 Expand upon my role as set decorator
I’ve done it a few times on different sets, as well as own life. If you’re not familiar with the term here’s a loose definition. I show up to set, which could be an office, house, apartment, bar; I move things around, decorate with a few borrowed or personal items until it looks good. Or it looks appropriate for the situation we’re filming. I REALLY enjoy it. I never realized how much I enjoyed “decorating” until I did it at an antiques shop in Sugarland, Texas. I had the same feeling while making centerpieces for my own wedding, and again when thinking about moving into a new house. I love spending the time to shuffle things around until they look right, I love putting pictures on walls, I love making an empty space looking like a home. So it’s not necessarily a goal as it is more of a hope that I can spend more time within this role.
