19 Sep Ode to my camera
For an indie filmmaker who owns his or her own camera, a camera is like an old friend. For me, it is an extra appendage that I use to express who I am and how I feel. It is my extra set of eyes, my additional memory tool. Not any camera will do unfortunately. I work with many cameras on set, but MY camera that I slaved to buy with my own money, that I have carried with me to every single film set that I ever worked on is something very special to me.
EPMB Music Video Shoot
Unfortunately, this week I left it out of my sight and it was taken from me. To anyone else, it takes pictures, video, and it is worth some money at a pawnshop. I write this blog specifically to that person because you did not just take an inanimate object, you took my friend.
I bought my Canon T2i in 2008 for my first commercial gig. I remember that before I went on set, I had to read through the manual because I still had no clue how to use it. Since 2008, the camera went with me to my first music video gig, then to business school. Even now, when I have access to cameras worth at least 10 times what my camera costs, I choose to carry her with me, regardless.
My camera is beat up. It has gone to India and survived the color battles of Holi. The grip is almost shredded away… but my camera is beautiful to me. Every single film, music video, commercial, that you see on the Moth to Flame website and Youtube channels was shot with my Canon T2i. I love you very much my friend.
Whoever took you in Decantur, Texas, please return her back to me. I miss you my friend.
