In 1994, National Geographic filmed the compelling documentary “Beyond the Clouds” about Lijiang, China. In 1995, Lijiang was struck by a devastating earthquake that registered 7.0 on the Richter scale, disrupting the lives of many in this beautiful and quaint city. This documentary seeks to show how the area nicknamed “Shangri-La” has changed and rebuilt itself in the recent years. Filmed in 2006, Christine Chen and Jo Ling Kent take a month long journey exploring Lijiang for Rice University. This is pretty much Christine Chen’s first official film.
