The beauty of being a filmmaker is that I get to relive experiences whenever I review and edit my footage. Sometimes this is not necessarily a positive thing, however, 90% of the time it is. Despite having to review approximately 50 hours, 1.5 Tb worth of footage, I welcomed it. India, a life changing experience in person and even more so through the camera. Back in March 2011, Hassan F. Johnson of ThaTrunk partnered up with director, Christine Chen, to create a mini-documentary series to kick off the launch of ThaTrunk.com. ThaTrunk.com is a digital music marketplace for driven Independent Hip Hop Artists that sells services normally offered by record labels. They are pretty awesome. Make sure to check them out. In 1994, National Geographic filmed the compelling documentary “Beyond the Clouds” about Lijiang, China. In 1995, Lijiang was struck by a devastating earthquake that registered 7.0 on the Richter scale, disrupting the lives of many in this beautiful and quaint city. This documentary seeks to show how the area nicknamed “Shangri-La” has changed and rebuilt itself in the recent years. Filmed in 2006, Christine Chen and Jo Ling Kent take a month long journey exploring Lijiang for Rice University. This is pretty much Christine Chen’s first official film.
