20 Aug How to Have a Successful Kickstarter Campaign?
Having produced several successful Kickstarter campaigns, and by successful I mean Kickstarters that reached their funding goals, many people have asked me what it takes to have a good Kickstarter video. Here are my thoughts. Making a good kickstarter video and campaign requires more than just a good camera. It takes a lot of planning, structuring, and good business sense. In my opinion, having no video is better than having a video if a company is unwilling or unable to spend the investment on quality. Why? Often times, a Kickstarter video is a company’s first impression to…
06 Aug What is Balance?
Balance. I often wonder whether this is a real word or a word designed to make me feel dissatisfied with whatever situation I am in. As a business owner and creative, I find myself constantly chasing this so called state of being. What is balance and how do I get there? writing essay For me, balance is the ability to survive financially, yet still be able to do what I enjoy doing, and find time for myself. You may think, well if you are making movies you are doing exactly what you enjoy doing. There is a big…

23 Jul Editing for the Nasdaq MarketSite Tower… A Reflection with Moth to Flame
I am consistently amazed by how drastically the painting experience can change by simply increasing or decreasing the size of the canvas. This goes the same way with editing. For a bigger screen, camera shakiness, for example, becomes much more prominent and any imperfection is magnified. I have not edited as much for a big screen, mainly for the computer/Internet, so I notice these differences significantly and how they affect my overall editing experience. When Aaron Lyons commissioned me to edit a 30-second piece for the Venture Labs Investment Competition (VLIC), to be displayed on the Nasdaq Tower in…

28 Jun Patron on Ice
The Patrón Social Club is one of the coolest venues that Moth to Flame recently had an opportunity to be a part… great food, drinks, and people. The biggest highlight of the day was getting to meet John Paul Dejoria himself, the founder of both Paul Mitchell products as well as Patrón. I have both heard the brand included in so many movies and hip-hop rap songs, and have definitely had a chance to have a drink or two (or three), but never imagined that I would have the chance to take a shot with JP himself. What a super…
14 Jun Fahrenheit Nutrition
One of my goals in life is to direct a Nike commercial. I love the desaturated color correction, the lighting and the fast cuts that are typical of some Nike commercials. When I had the opportunity to film the Fahrenheit Nutrition video, I was ecstatic to be able to put some of my creativity to the test. This is what we came up with. The athletes definitely made us look good, Will Molina the director of photography did wonders, and we even had original music by Richard Evans of The Guild.
