Funemployment: Table Read 2

Dear Diary,

After a nerve wracking 1st table read for Funemployment, it was a relief to say that the response to the script after the 2nd table read had significantly improved. Luckily, with the powers combined, Larissa and I managed to fix some structural issues and injected more characterizations for some of the audience’s favorite characters.

Though it is an exciting feeling to think that we are 90% closer to having a script we are happy with, it is also terribly frightening. Why? I guess the closer we are to the dream the more there is at stake. We are getting closer and closer to the next edge, getting ready to take the leap. It is scary wondering whether that leap will have a hard landing, and we will all come out scarred and broken, or whether there will be a nice pillow at the bottom to cushion the fall. Who knows? I feel ready though. More ready than I ever will be I think at this point in my career at least.

The biggest difference between the first and second read is how much further the story moves away from the underlying structural truth of the story. I think this is a good thing. Even though it is fictional, the emotions still remain. It is hard not to experience those emotions and have them not affect my daily mood. Writing is a means of catharsis for me. This week has been very rough. I feel like I am on a rollercoaster.

Next week we start the casting process. It is going to be nuts and I cannot wait.
