13 Aug Pain is an Artist’s Muse
Pain. It is an artist’s muse. Though we hate what it is does to our physical being, loss of appetite, sleep, and the list goes on, a small part of us cannot help be fascinated by it because of the kind of work we are able to produce. Artists thrive and feed off of emotional energy. Sadness, for me, is the most powerful emotion of all and as a result of dealing with it, I find myself creating my best art. I joke with my friends that I can only paint when I am in the extreme depths of…

06 Aug What is Balance?
Balance. I often wonder whether this is a real word or a word designed to make me feel dissatisfied with whatever situation I am in. As a business owner and creative, I find myself constantly chasing this so called state of being. What is balance and how do I get there? writing essay For me, balance is the ability to survive financially, yet still be able to do what I enjoy doing, and find time for myself. For a bigger screen, camera shakiness, for example, becomes much more prominent and any imperfection is magnified. I have not edited as much for a big screen, mainly for the computer/Internet, so I notice these differences significantly and how they affect my overall editing experience. When Aaron Lyons commissioned me to edit a 30-second piece for the Venture Labs Investment Competition (VLIC), to be displayed on the Nasdaq Tower in…

18 Jul Cali Blog #14: Last Day at Comic-Con
The last day of Comic-Con did not involve much Comic-Con. I had seen the panels I wanted to see, at least the ones I was willing to wait for, and had bought all the souvenirs I wanted to buy. So after volunteering, I spent only an hour before heading back to the hostel and giving one lucky guy a free badge for the rest of the day. Instead of Comic-Con, I decided to go to the beach with Elsa without any camera. Of course I regretted the no camera decision once I arrived, so I took pictures with my…
13 Jul Cali Blog #11: Comic Con Madness and Lines
The Hostel If someone wanted one word that comes to my mind when I think of Comic-Con, the word would be lines — lots and lots of lines. Chris Jackson, who had went last year, and is the reason why I am even able to come to Comic-Con this year (thank you Chris) had warned me about these lines, but it still did not prepare me for what I saw at 8 AM in the morning. Insane. The line snaked from the front of the building to the back of the building to the building next to the building….
