The beauty of being a filmmaker is that I get to relive experiences whenever I review and edit my footage. Sometimes this is not necessarily a positive thing, however, 90% of the time it is. Despite having to review approximately 50 hours, 1.5 Tb worth of footage, I welcomed it. India, a life changing experience in person and even more so through the camera. Here is what I came up with for my first pass at the footage (besides the trailer).   I hope it gives you as much joy watching it as it did for me editing. The music…

Moth the Flame was invited by Poptent to create commercial specs for H-E-B that targeted Texas moms. Though we did not end up being chosen as the finalists, I feel like we still produced two very awesome commercials. Thank you to coloredlion.com and Kelsey Parks for helping out. A good filmmaker is one who knows how to establish a connection with an audience through a story. These stories are driven by the characters, “personas,” that we create. In order to create a believable or relatable character, I often have to recreate an entire character’s life cycle, habits, dreams, goals, even if these characteristics are not portrayed directly in a story, in order to understand how a character would naturally react to the events that happen in his or her life.   My latest project involved making a spec commercial that targets Texas moms who would be interested in…

It is always easy to negate all the accomplishments you have managed to reach, especially when you have an ultimate greater goal in mind. Making this reel was actually a comforting experience because it made me realize how far Moth to Flame has come to be. You may notice that there are a few pieces that are not from 2011, but I have not made an official reel before, so decided to include everything that I felt showcased my journey as a filmmaker. I cannot wait to see what 2012 has in store for me. I am already off to…

Health is not just about what you eat. Hear more from celebrity chef, Lizette López de Arriaga!   Meeting chef Lizette López de Arriaga was very inspiring. She has a charisma and a positive energy that quite literally radiates from her. I had the honor of documenting one of the events from her Wellness Ambassador Program, a program thats goal is to encourage people of all ages to live healthier lives. Lizette says that health is not just in the choices of foods we eat, but is an overall lifestyle choice that involves how we are doing emotionally as well….

Check out what happened in 2011 and Moth to Flame’s goals for the new year!! Lots of new things in 2012. Many accomplishments in 2011, but we are already looking to do bigger and better things in the new year. If I didn’t mention you, I am sorry! I did this really fast. Off the top of my head, I totally forgot to mention David J Anderson for redesigning the Moth to Flame logo and Shannon Deane who continues to help me clean up my messy sound.

My friend Becka asked me if I could help film the Big Reds and Bubbles event, hosted by the Wine and Food Foundation of Texas. The moment she said free food from the best chefs in Austin and free wine, I said of course. It was a beautiful event with booths from different restaurants in Austin and over 100 different types of wines and champagnes. I ate way too much. The event took place at The Driskell Hotel and was packed the entire night. My favorite food item of the night was definitely the crab cakes made by Truluck’s. I…

Moth to Flame decided to try their luck and enter not just one, but four separate spec commercials to the 2011 Doritos Crash the Superbowl Contest. Check out our entries and the making of video! I have been wanting to make a Doritos commercial ever since I saw the ones from 2010. They are so fun and clever. This year I came up with four different subjects. Each of these subjects were refined and perfected after bouncing off the ideas to several key members: Harold Williams, Graham Smith, Tom Beagles, and Nicholas Hasandras. Be sure to check out each of…
