29 Mar A Bollywood Experience
The beauty of being a filmmaker is that I get to relive experiences whenever I review and edit my footage. Sometimes this is not necessarily a positive thing, however, 90% of the time it is. Despite having to review approximately 50 hours, 1.5 Tb worth of footage, I welcomed it. India, a life changing experience in person and even more so through the camera. Here is what I came up with for my first pass at the footage (besides the trailer). I hope it gives you as much joy watching it as it did for me editing. The music…
22 Mar India Day 11: Shopping Day!!
Day 11 (Shopping Day!!) After having a full schedule the entire trip, it felt nice to wake up to no plans and leisurely have breakfast at 9:15 with Paul and a small group of stragglers (Aimy, Jeff, and Kevin), who were staying in Mumbai until 6 pm. I joked that, to save money, I would eat enough to last until dinner. The only real plans consisted of meeting with Suma’s little brother, Sujeet, at 2:00 pm to receive a cell phone that Suma’s family graciously allowed us to borrow. As breakfast ended, we planned to meet again after we all…
20 Mar India Day 10: The Power to Change a World
Day 10 (The Power to Change a World) Last day together as a group in Mumbai. Many of us are splitting off to go to other locations within India or other countries (Goa, Nepal, Carola, and Paris). However, Paul and I decided to stay in Mumbai to meet the parents and friends of our dear friend Suma. Our final two group stops: Leela Hotels (real estate) and Lend-a-Hand. For once, I made the early morning meeting time of 8:30 am. Except I didn’t, as Doggett wanted to transfer footage because he was leaving later in the afternoon. So technically,…
17 Mar India Day 9: Everyday I’m Hustling
Day 9 (Everyday I’m Hustling) Bright and early, we began the day by setting off to see the famous Bombay Stock Exchange (Bombay is the same as Mumbai and often used interchangeably). Regrettably, I suck at finance and anything related, so I did not have much to contribute. One interesting thing: the current savings account interest rate is a whopping 8%. Unfortunately, the inflation rate however around 12% so people just lose money. Perhaps people could make money in the U.S. if they save their money in offshore accounts in India to get the 8% interest rate. I imagine strict…
16 Mar India Day 8: Haggling and Slums
Day 8 (Haggling and Slums) Today started painfully with a 5:30 am meeting time. To catch our flight to Mumbai on IndiGo we took a four-hour bus ride back to Delhi. Needless to say, multiple wake-up calls were at the ready. On our way out, I recorded footage of the villages we passed on our way out of Ahmedabad. I fell asleep for various legs of the journey even though I sat in the very front of the bus, as Doggett had insisted, and the bus driver informed me that he needed me not to fall asleep or else…

05 Mar India: Day 1 Part I – Airplane and Arrival
Surreal. The only way I can even begin to describe what I feel: Surreal. Other than that, no words come to mind. I remember how I responded to my professor when he told me that I had to experience India. “Absolutely not possible,” I replied given my current starving student/artist budget. He persisted by telling me that I could film for McCombs in exchange for a trip to India. “That would be amazing, but I’m not going to get my hopes up.” Even in the week before my scheduled, I almost drowned in the sea of midterms, papers, packing, and…
