2017 was a year of film festivals for Moth to Flame. It was our first time “touring” our film, My Heart – Ya Albi. Though we did go to a few festivals for our previous films, “A Bird’s Nest” and “Two Roads,” it was definitely not to the extent that we have (and continue to) with My Heart – Ya Albi. We are thankful for the incredible response to the film and all the incredible awards we have won, the cool parties we have attended, and most importantly, the awesome people we have met. You hear horror stories of filmmakers...

Day before Thanksgiving   I am sitting at the Austin airport as I write this, about to leave for Colorado to visit my brother in Denver for Thanksgiving. While I am waiting, I’m busily trying to write posts and generate buzz about our Academy qualified film, My Heart – Ya Albi. Academy qualified. It doesn’t seem real. I remember a few years ago watching the Academy nominated films in the movie theater and thinking that my filmmaking was still a long way from the caliber of those films. Yet, here I am in the airport in 2017, only a few...

Dear Universe,   I want an Oscar (SO MUCH) – the elusive golden statue that appears in most filmmakers’ dreams, a symbol that validates all the blood, sweat, and tears, and one of the highest honors a filmmaker can hope to achieve. Once, this goal seemed barely obtainable, but now “My Heart – Ya Albi” is one of the 160+ Oscar qualified live action short films contending for a spot on the “Short List” for a 2018 Oscar nomination.   My Heart - Ya Albi is an Oscar qualified live action short film I am so thankful that we have...

When Christine first approached me with what would become Ya Albi (My Heart), I had to literally tell myself to play it cool. She probably doesn’t know this, or that I had written her name down on my wish list of directors I’d love to work with after seeing “A Bird’s Nest” two years prior. I guess I played it cool enough … thankfully!

Crew Member – Nick Longoria talks about Composing I was very lucky to be chosen to score A Bird’s Nest. My music tends to be dark, so after reading the script, I was ecstatic to begin crafting the dark undertones for David’s very dark tale. The foundation of the score is built upon a purgatorial felt piano to mimic the wandering-soul of David. I kept it super simple. From there, violins and violas slither in and out as the celli and basses build to the climax of the story. Aside from the horror moments of the film, I see its…

The idea to reality of A Bird’s Nest has been a whirlwind. It took one short story, by Eric Hwang, written almost a decade ago and the right lead, Deke Garner, to spark the inspiration for this short film.   The screenplay, adapted by Christine Chen, will be shot in Shreveport, Louisiana, May 28-30, 2014. More updates to come. Here is our first official poster designed by Alicia Marshall.

Have you ever wondered why you’ve stayed with that one guy or girl. In “Thanks Babe!” Moth to Flame explores a typical life in a typical couple’s day. Well, maybe not so typical…perhaps borderline psycho? Tell us what you think.     We’ve all been in relationships where we wonder why we’re still in them. Beautiful filmmaking elicits on some level an emotional response from people. We love when we can make people laugh, and we all really enjoyed writing and making this short. We have regular lunch meetings on Tuesdays where we talk about things that make us…
