17 Jul Cali Blog #13: Avoiding Lines at Comic-Con
I knew the Saturday lines and crowd capacity would be so insane that I spent the first part of my day avoiding them. I slept in, worked on my blog, and rolled into the Convention Center just in time for my shift at 1:00 pm.
My line management shift proved to me that I made the right decision. The lines were insane. Patience for me is not my strongest suit and I definitely do not understand how anyone can wait in line for 5 hours to see a 1-hour panel. That is total dedication! I guess if I had my editing set up or my laptop I would be able to do so, but dragging my giant 17’ Apple laptop proved to not be possible considering my first day Comic-Con experience. I think I am adding an iPad to my list of wants.
After line management, I met up with Elsa to go hang out with the History Channel cookout boys. They remembered us and we got VIP treatment, meaning they fed us whatever we wanted: ribs, pork, and sausage. So delicious. Later on, Elsa and I took a mini walking tour around the Bay and just talked about life transitions and girly stuff, before heading off to the Ruby Room to find my friend Michelle.
Michelle Faraone, who many of you have seen in a variety of commercial specs and the Clinique commercial, is a great friend and talented actress. I got to know Michelle really well when I stayed with her during my summer internship with 20th Century Fox. Michelle and David recently started a business called Melt, selling David’s award winning grilled cheese creations. I have wanted one of these grilled cheese sandwiches ever since I heard they started the business. Michelle showed up at Comic-Con with Devil’s Playground (super awesome burlesque troupe) and I got to have my first taste. Absolutely marvelous…So much melty cheesy goodness. Anyone in LA should make sure to check them out.
We did not stay for the entire show because Elsa and I had a date with the History Channel Cookout boys (Taco, LT, and LD). They were tired from working for 4 days straight starting at 5 AM in the morning. Elsa happens to be a local. We hung out with them on their yacht and then headed off to Ocean Beach. After walking around, we decided upon an Irish pub. The most fun part is that we had to take their History Channel Cookout truck to the venue because Elsa’s car was too small to fit 3 burly men. Anyway, it was good times.
The best thing about these events is meeting new people and finding a few that you want to continue keeping in touch with.
