Surreal. The only way I can even begin to describe what I feel: Surreal. Other than that, no words come to mind. I remember how I responded to my professor when he told me that I had to experience India. “Absolutely not possible,” I replied given my current starving student/artist budget. He persisted by telling me that I could film for McCombs in exchange for a trip to India. “That would be amazing, but I’m not going to get my hopes up.” Even in the week before my scheduled, I almost drowned in the sea of midterms, papers, packing, and…

The social media space is a space that I am fascinated with because of the power it gives to independent filmmakers wanting to self-promote their own material. Before social media, we relied purely on screenings and film festivals, in order to gain an audience. Now, anyone can post a YouTube video and it has the possibility of going viral, accessing millions of users locally and around the world.   Unfortunately, because it is so easy to post material on YouTube and Facebook, it is also easy for your material to become lost amongst the millions of other user content. One of Moth to Flame's favorite McCombs' events is the annual International Night event at UT McCombs. The event was documented by Christine Chen and Praveen Katta. Footage edited by Kelsey Parks. International Night is an event that I look forward to every year as a MBA student at McCombs. It's a beautiful celebration of some of McCombs' student diversity. There is food, dance, and colors. My favorite part is the food, of course. This year, I participated in two of the booths (India and Africa) as a dancer. I figured, when am I going to be able to wear...

Every semester it feels like my workload keeps increasing exponentially. The one word I need to keep continuing to learn how to use is "No." Fortunately, after being asked to help out with the 2011 Mr. McCombs pageant, I am glad that I did not say no to this opportunity. It was a big rush. Only a few hours, sometimes, just 30 minutes to film something that hopefully would be funny or compelling. Carlos Dinkins, one of my favorite actors and friends (because of his ability to deliver in a shameless matter) said yes immediately of course... then David Isquick,...
