Day 10 (The Power to Change a World) Last day together as a group in Mumbai. Many of us are splitting off to go to other locations within India or other countries (Goa, Nepal, Carola, and Paris). However, Paul and I decided to stay in Mumbai to meet the parents and friends of our dear friend Suma.   Our final two group stops: Leela Hotels (real estate) and Lend-a-Hand. For once, I made the early morning meeting time of 8:30 am. Except I didn’t, as Doggett wanted to transfer footage because he was leaving later in the afternoon. So technically,…

Day 9 (Everyday I’m Hustling) Bright and early, we began the day by setting off to see the famous Bombay Stock Exchange (Bombay is the same as Mumbai and often used interchangeably). Regrettably, I suck at finance and anything related, so I did not have much to contribute. One interesting thing: the current savings account interest rate is a whopping 8%. Unfortunately, the inflation rate however around 12% so people just lose money. Perhaps people could make money in the U.S. if they save their money in offshore accounts in India to get the 8% interest rate. I imagine strict…

Surreal. The only way I can even begin to describe what I feel: Surreal. Other than that, no words come to mind. I remember how I responded to my professor when he told me that I had to experience India. “Absolutely not possible,” I replied given my current starving student/artist budget. He persisted by telling me that I could film for McCombs in exchange for a trip to India. “That would be amazing, but I’m not going to get my hopes up.” Even in the week before my scheduled, I almost drowned in the sea of midterms, papers, packing, and…

My friend Becka asked me if I could help film the Big Reds and Bubbles event, hosted by the Wine and Food Foundation of Texas. The moment she said free food from the best chefs in Austin and free wine, I said of course. It was a beautiful event with booths from different restaurants in Austin and over 100 different types of wines and champagnes. I ate way too much. The event took place at The Driskell Hotel and was packed the entire night. My favorite food item of the night was definitely the crab cakes made by Truluck’s. I…

Everyone in Texas goes to HEB! HEB picked Moth to Flame to do a spec! HEB picked Moth to Flame as one of the 20 filmmakers to shoot a spec for Web and TV usage, targeting Texas moms, showcasing some of their products. I thought to myself, what better way to showcase HEB’s food than to film a real Texas family having a good time? I immediately contacted my friend Emily Albino, whose entire family uses HEB and are born and raised in Texas. Moth to Flame recently shot Emily’s wedding video with Coloredlion.com. Make sure to also check…

Moth to Flame decided to try their luck and enter not just one, but four separate spec commercials to the 2011 Doritos Crash the Superbowl Contest. Check out our entries and the making of video! I have been wanting to make a Doritos commercial ever since I saw the ones from 2010. They are so fun and clever. This year I came up with four different subjects. Each of these subjects were refined and perfected after bouncing off the ideas to several key members: Harold Williams, Graham Smith, Tom Beagles, and Nicholas Hasandras. Be sure to check out each of…
